"The surgical management of astigmatism is ruled by proper orientation and marking. Simplicity and elegance define our new set of instruments for marking and alignment of toric intraocular lenses (IOL'S). Our latest set is comprised of four instruments.
First, we offer the new Bakewell BubbleLevel (developed in conjunction with Brock Bakewell, MD), which creates marks preoperatively at the 0/180 horizon. It is important to create reference marks with the patient sitting up to avoid cyclotorsion errors that are known to occur when the patient is placed in the supine surgical position. This device requires no speculum or slit lamp and creates well defined alignment marks in the peripheral cornea that work in conjunction with our new Gimbel/Mendez fixation rings to accurately position the proper meridian (axis) during the surgical procedure.
