This new premium diamond blade is an advancement upon the classic theme of the original Trifacet design, which was the first ophthalmic diamond scalpel made by Micra Titanium (England) in the early 1970's. This design has endured through many decades because of inherent utility.

The Ahmed design features an ultrathin diamond (half as thick) for minimal invasiveness. Additional features of third and fourth sharp facets connected to the 150 micron truncated tip (makes tip more robust, adds control to all dissecting purposes) are sharp for 175 microns (helping gauge scleral groove depths) and 500 microns (helping judge deep grooves) respectively at an angle of 30 degrees (from vertical), yielding an overall 60 degree piercing geometry (near ideal).
